Lough Key Forest Park - Castle Island

Castle Island ist vermutlich der bekannteste Blick im Forest Park. Es wird bereits 1184 in den Aufzeichnungen erwähnt, das Land um den See gehörte damals den MacDermonts. Eine Geschichte, die mit Castle Island verbunden ist, geht so:
Una MacDermont verliebte sich in Thomas McCostello - gegen den Wunsch ihres Vaters. Er verbannte sie auf Castle Island, wo sie erkrankte und starb. Una wurde auf Trinity Island beerdigt. Thomas McCostello schwamm jeden Nach über den Lough Key, um ihr Grab zu besuchen. Jedoch erkrankte er an Lungenentzündung, sein letzter Wunsch war, neben seiner Geliebten beerdigt zu werden. Unas Vater stimmte zu, und so war das Liebespaar schlussendlich doch beisammen.

Castle Island is probably the best-known view in the Forest Park. It is already mentioned in the records in 1184, the land around the lake then belongs to the MacDermonts. A tale connected to Castle Island goes like this:
Una MacDermont fell in love with Thomas McCostello - against the wishes of her father. He banned her to Castle Island, where she became sick and died. Una was buried on Trinity Island. Thomas McCostello swam every night across the Lough Key to visit her grave. Eventually he caught pneumonia, his last request was to be buried beside his beloved. Una's father agreed to that, and so the lovers were united at last.
