Rathcrogan Cairn

Ein Stück abseits der N5 nördlich von Tulsk kommen wir zum Rathcrogan Cairn. Er ist sehr weiträumig mit einem Zaun umgeben, Wachrinder verhindern ein Näherkommen. Allerdings sind alle hier gefundenen Artefakte sowieso im Cruachan Ai Visitor Centre in Tulsk ausgestellt.
Die Tafel am Parkplatz sagt uns, dass das hier das Gebiet ist in dem die Könige von Connaught begraben wurden, und es eine Größe von 518 Hektar umfasst. Darauf befinden sich 20 Ringforts, Grabhügel und Steinzeitgräber. Ein zwei Meter hoher Menhir markiert das Grab von König Dathi, dem letzten heidnischen König Irlands. Und hier begann und endete Königin Maeves Jagd nach dem braunen Stier von Cooley (Tain Bo Cuailgne).

Aside the N5 north of Tulsk we come to the Rathcrogan Cairn. It is surrounded very amply with a fence, guarding-cattle prohibit our approach. The artefacts that were found here are exhibited in the Cruachan Ai Visitor Centre in Tulsk anyhow.
The board on the parking place tells us, that here is the area where the kings of Connaught were buried, and that it covers 518 hectares. There are 20 ring forts, burial mounds and megalithic tombs on it. A two-metre high standing stone marks the grave of King Dathi, the last pagan king of Ireland. And here started and ended Queen Maeve's pursuit of the Brown Bull of Cooley (Tain Bo Cuailgne).
