Emo Court

1790 begann James Gandon im Auftrag von John Dawson, dem 1. Earl of Portarlington, mit dem Bau von Emo Court. Es sollte aber fast ein Jahrhundert vergehen, bevor das Anwesen unter dem 3. Earl endlich fertiggestellt wurde. Als der Letzte der Portarlingtons Emo 1920 verließ, verfiel das Anwesen, wurde aber 1969 von Mr. Cholmeley-Harrison gerettet, der das Haus und den Grund wieder in Stand setzte und es später an den Dúchas, der sich um die Pflege des Kulturerbes kümmert, übergeben.
Das gesamte Grundstück umfasst 35 Hektar, die Zufahrt zum Haus erfolgt durch einen dichten Wald.

In 1790 James Gandon began, on order of John Dawson the 1^st Earl of Portarlington, with the creation of Emo Court. But it would take almost another hundred years before the estate was finally finished under the 3^rd Earl. When the last of the Portarlingtons left Emo in 1920, the estate started to decline, but was rescued by Mr. Cholmeley-Harrison in 1968, who restored the house and the grounds and later handed it over to the Dúchas, the Heritage Service.
The whole premises are 35 hectares in size, the driveway to the house is through a dense forest.
