Clonfinlough Stone

Auf dem Weg von Clonmacnoise nach Athlone (R444) sehen wir plötzlich einen Wegweiser zum "Clonfinlough Stone". Dem müssen wir natürlich nachgehen. Nach kurzer Fahrt parken wir neben einer Kirche und gehen einen schmalen Weg zwischen Häusern und Feldern hindurch, bis wir vor dem Stein stehen. Aber irgendwie ist er unspektakulär (im Vergleich mit den La Tène Steinen). Der Blick auf die Gegend entschädigt uns für den Aufwand.

On our way from Clonmacnoise to Athlone (R444) we see a signpost to the "Clonfinlough Stone". That we have to explore more deeply. After a short drive we park near a church and walk over a small path between houses and fields until we stand before the stone. But somehow it is unspectacular (compared to the La Tène stones). The view into the area however makes up for the effort.
