Der/The Hill of Tara

Am Hügel von Tara mischen sich irische Geschichte und Geschichten. Steinzeitmenschen benutzten ihn bereits als Grabstätte und er war heidnische Kultstätte, ehe im 3. Jahrhundert König Cormac Mac Airt seine Festung auf ihm baute. Von nun an war hier das Zentrum der Macht und Treffpunkt der legendären Fenier, den Kämpfern Cormacs (Lied). Mit dem Aufstieg des Christentums verlor Tara an Bedeutung und wurde 1022 ganz aufgegeben. Erst 1843 wurde es wieder Symbol des irischen Nationalbewusstseins, als Daniel O'Connell hier seine größte Versammlung zur Unabhängigkeit Irlands abhielt.

On the Hill of Tara facts and fantasy of Irelands heritage mix. Stone Age people used it as a burial site and it was a pagan place of worship, before king Cormac Mac Airt build his castle in the 3^rd century on it. From now on here was the center of power and the meeting place of the legendary Fenians, the fighters of Cormac (song). With the rise of Christianity Tara lost its importance and was abandoned in 1022. It was not before 1843 that Tara again became a symbol of the Irish nationalism, when Daniel O'Connell held here his largest gathering to achieve Ireland's independence.
