Dublin City: Custome House

Das Hauptzollamt wurde 1791 von James Gandon erbaut, der auch viele andere Bauten in Dublin errichtete. Das Gebäude wird von dorischen Säulen, allegorische Darstellungen der dreizehn irischen Flüsse sowie der Erdteile und von der Statue der Hoffnung auf der Spitze der Kuppel verziert.

The Custom House was built in 1791 by James Gandon, who also was responsible for many other buildings in Dublin. The house is decorated with Doric columns, allegorical representations of the thirteen rivers of Ireland and the continents, and of the statue of Hope on the top of the dome.
