Wicklow Stadt / Wicklow town

Ein Stück südlich der Stadt findet sich der Wicklow Head auf dem sogar zwei Leuchttürme stehen. Leider sind sie nicht öffentlich zugänglich, aber wir kommen eigentlich aus einem anderen Grund hierher: Denn der Wicklow Head ist der Teil der Republik Irland, der am weitesten östlich liegt. Gemeinsam mit dem Malin Head (Norden), Slea Head (Westen) und Mizen Head (Süden) haben wir jetzt alle vier Ecken von Irland besucht.

Wicklow town is the capital of the county with the same name. It was founded by the Vikings as "Wykinglo" = the meadow of the Vikings. For us, it is the ideal starting base for our trips into the Wicklow Mountains and the surrounding gardens. More...

A short distance from the town is the Wicklow Head, on which even two light houses have been erected. They are not open to the public, but we come here for another reason: Wicklow Head is the most eastern point of the Republic of Ireland. Having already visited Malin Head (north), Slea Head (west) and Mizen Head (south) we have now been to all four corners of Ireland.
