Staigue Fort

Ein besonderes Erlebnis ist für uns das Staigue Fort. D.h. weniger das Fort selbst, als die Fahrt dort hin. Die Zufahrtsstraße ist sogar noch enger als wir das schon gewohnt sind und bietet gerade Platz für ein Auto, Ausweichmöglichkeiten oder Plätze zum Umdrehen gibt es scheinbar keine. Aber da sie nur ein einfacher Feldweg ist und hauptsächlich aus Steinen und Löchern besteht, ist schnell fahren sowieso nicht möglich. Das Fort entschädigt uns dann für die Strapazen - es ist das bemerkenswerte Beispiel einer Steinwallfestung mit 4 Meter dicken und 6 Meter hohen Mauern und ist mit Kammern und Treppen versehen. Wir kommen auch ohne Probleme wieder zurück - glücklicherweise sind kaum Besucher zum Fort unterwegs.

A special experience for us is the visit of the Staigue Fort. That is, less the fort itself but the drive to it. The approach road is even narrower then we are already used to and offers just space enough for one car, by-passes or space for turning are apparently non-existent. But as it is only a simple dirt track and mainly consisting of stones and holes, we cannot drive fast at all. The fort itself compensates for the hardship - it is the noticeable example of a stone fort with 4 metres thick and 6 metres high walls, equipped with chambers and stairways. We are able to return without any problem - luckily, there are not many visitors on their way to the fort.
