Kenmare wurde 1670 von Sir William Petty gegründet, um von
hier aus die naheliegenden Eisenvorkommen abzubauen. In Kenmare treffen sich der Ring of
Kerry und der Ring of Beara, und es ist damit idealer Ausgangspunkt für eine Rundreise um
beide Halbinseln.
Etwas abseits der geschäftigen Hauptstraße liegt ein mehr als 3000 Jahre alter
Steinkreis, der hier "Druiden Kreis" genannt wird. Im Zentrum des knapp 20 Meter
durchmessenden Kreises steht ein Bestattungsdolmen.
Kenmare was founded in 1670 by Sir William Petty, to mine the near-by iron
deposits from here. In Kenmare the Ring of Kerry and the Ring of Beara meet, and therefore
it is the ideal starting point for trips around both peninsulas.
At little way off the busy main road there is a stone circle, more then 3000 years in age
and locally known as the "Druid's Circle". In the centre of the circle, that is
measuring almost 20 metres in diameter, stands a burial dolmen.
