Die kleine Insel Garinish Island, die auch Ilnacullin genannt
wird, gilt als besonderes Juwel im Südwesten von Irland. Am Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts
erwarb Annan Bryce die Insel und ließ sie von dem Architekten und Landschaftsgärtner
Harold Peto gestalten. Mit viel Mühe (selbst die Erde wurde auf die Insel gebracht)
entstand hier auf mehr als 12000 m2 ein prächtiger Garten mit einem
bezaubernden Italienischen Garten als Mittelstück.
Wir nehmen eines der vielen Fährboote von Glengarriff aus, das uns zur Insel übersetzt.
Doch bevor wir mit unserem Inselrundgang beginnen können,
zeigt uns der Skipper noch eine weitere Attraktion: Die Seehunde der Bantry Bay.
The isle Garinish Island, which is also called Ilnacullin, is reputed as a
special gem in the south-west of Ireland. At the beginning of the 20th century
Annan Bryce bought the island and had it designed by the architect and landscape-gardener
Harold Peto. With much effort (even the soil had to be brought to the island) a
magnificent garden with an enchanting Italian garden as the centrepiece was created on
more then 12000 m2.
We take one of the many ferry boats departing from Glengarriff, which brings us to the
island. But before we can start our walk across the island the
skipper shows us another attraction: The seals of Bantry Bay.
