Limerick - Kerry - Cork

Wir konnten dem Südwesten der Insel bei unserer ersten Reise nur ungenügend Zeit widmen (gerade einmal eineinhalb Tage). Trotzdem waren wir von dem wenigen, das wir gesehen haben stark beeindruckt. Hier ragen die höchsten Berge Irlands auf, von rauhen Tälern durchzogen, mit Hochmooren und kleinen Seen bedeckt. Üppige subtropische Parklandschaften wechseln mit kahlen Berggipfeln ab, lange Sandstrände mit steilen Küsten.
Darum beschlossen wir bei unserer dritten Reise diesen Teil Irlands mit mehr Muße zu erleben. Und hätten trotzdem noch viel, viel länger gebraucht um all die Sehenswürdigkeiten und die wunderbare Landschaft in all ihrer Pracht zu genießen.

We could not dedicate enough time to the south-west of the island (just one and a half day) on our first travel. Nevertheless we were strongly impressed by the few sights we saw. Here, the highest mountains of Ireland tower up, run through by rugged valleys, covered by upland moors and small lakes. Lush subtropical forest parks alternate with bare mountain tops, long sandy beaches with steep coasts.
That is why we decided to spend more quality time in this part of Ireland on our third journey. And still we would have needed much, much more time to enjoy all the objects of interest and the wonderful landscape in all its beauty.

Unsere Route führt uns am Anfang auf die vier größeren der fünf Halbinseln im Südwesten Irlands: Zuerst nach Dingle (County Kerry Ky), dann entlang des Ring of Kerry. Den Umweg über Killarney können wir uns nicht entgehen lassen. Danach kommen wir auf die Beara Halbinsel (County Cork Ck), wo wir auf Garinish Island übersetzen und auch den Ort Bantry besuchen. Ein Ausflug landeinwärts bringt uns zum Gougane Barra, wo der River Lee entspringt. Wieder am Meer, fahren wir auf die südlichste Halbinsel mit dem Mizen Head. Die Südküste entlang kommen wir nach Kinsale und weiter nach Cobh. Wir verlassen die Küste und fahren durch das Landesinnere nach Cork, besuchen in dessen Nähe Blarney Castle und gehen in Adare (County Limerick Lm) spazieren. Nach einem Ausflug zum Lough Gur und zu den Celtic Gardens kommen wir am Ziel unserer Reise in Limerick an.

The beginning our journey leads us to the four largest of the five peninsulas in the south-west of Ireland: At first to Dingle (County Kerry Ky), then along the Ring of Kerry. We cannot miss the opportunity for a detour to Killarney. Afterwards we come to the Beara peninsula (County Cork Ck), where we ferry over to Garinish Island and also visit the town of Bantry. A trip inland takes us to the Gougane Barra, where the River Lee has its source. Back at the sea, we drive to the most southward peninsula with the Mizen Head. Along the south coast we come to Kinsale and further to Cobh. We leave the coast and drive through the inland to Cork, visit Blarney Castle in the town's vicinity and take a walk through Adare (County Limerick Lm). After a trip to the Lough Gur and to the Celtic Gardens we arrive at the goal of our journey in Limerick.
