Kirche RC zum Heiligen Cronán / Saint Cronán's Catholic Church

Als Folge der Emanzipation der Katholiken ab dem späten 18. Jahrhundert, durften die Katholiken in Roscrea 1812 neben der alten Abtei eine neue Kirche bauen. Aber bereits wenige Jahrzehnte später war diese zu klein geworden und durch eine größere Kirche ersetzt. Die Pläne dazu kamen vom Architekten William Deane Butler. Die Große Hungersnot verzögerte den Bau und die Kirche wurde erst 1855 fertiggestellt und eingeweiht. Es dauerte aber noch einige Jahre, bis auch die Innenausstattung vollständig war.

Following the Catholic Emancipation since the late 18^th century, the Catholics in Roscrea were allowed to build a new church in 1812 beside the old abbey. Just a few decades later it already had become too small and was replaced by a larger church. The plans for this were made by the architect William Deane Butler. The Great Famine delayed the construction works and the church was only accomplished and dedicated in 1855. It took some more years until also the interior decoration was completed.
