Fluss Boyne / River Boyne

Der Fluss Boyne (Abhainn na Bóinne) wurde nach der Göttin Boann benannt. Er entspringt in der Trinity Well in Newbury Demesne in Carbury. Oder fließt durch das Anwesen durch, hier sind sich die Quellen im Internet nicht einig. Auf der Reise von etwa 112 Kilometern bis zur Mündung am Mornington Strand, passiert der Fluss Boyne viele historisch bedeutsame Stätten, wie die großen Grabanlagen in Newgrange, Knowth und Dowth, dem ehemaligen Sitz des Hochkönigs auf Tara, der Anhöhe von Slane, wo der Hl. Patrick sein erstes Osterfeuer entzündete, und auch Drogheda, in dessen Nähe im Kampf an der Boyne das Schicksal Irlands durch Wilhelm von Oranien besiegelt wurde.
