Bruecken / Bridges
Brücken ersparen dem Reisenden nicht nur nasse Füße, sondern in den meisten Fällen einen großen Umweg zur nächsten Furt. Und da es in Irland nicht an Wasser mangelt, gibt es auch viele Brücken. Die Palette reicht von Autobahnbrücken bis zur Zierbrücke in Japanischen Gärten.
Besonders beeindruckend finden wir die alten Steinbrücken. Sie wurden von Hunderten von Jahren gebaut, zu einer Zeit als Ochsenfuhrwerke das schwerste war, das sie zu ertragen hatten. Und trotzdem halten sie auch heute noch tonnenschweren Lastkraftwagen stand. Hut ab vor den Baumeistern der damaligen Zeit!
Bridges not only spare travellers from getting their feet wet, but in most cases they also save them from having to take a long detour to the next ford. And as there is no lack of water in Ireland, there are also many bridges. The range extends from highway bridges to ornamental bridges in Japanese gardens.
Especially impressive we find the old stone bridges. They were built hundred of years ago, at a time when ox carts were the heaviest thing they had to bear. And still they withstand trucks weighing tons even today. Kudos to the master builders of former times.
