Taghmon Turmhaus / Taghmon Castle

In der Nähe der Kirche, aber abseits der Straße, auf Privatgrund, hinter Mauern verborgen und mit Efeu überwuchert stehen die Ruinen von Taghmon Castle. Die frühesten Aufzeichnungen scheinen von 1452 zu sein, als ein hier stehendes Turmhaus und die Kirche von Feargal MacGeoghegan geplündert und niedergebrannt wurden. Im 17. Jahrhundert war das Turmhaus im Besitz der Familie Nugent. In dieser Zeit wurde Taghmon Castle gebaut (keine richtige Burg, sondern ein befestigtes Haus), das ehemalige Turmhaus war Teil der Befestigungsmauer. Wann das Haus verlassen und dem Verfall preisgegeben wurde, finden wir nicht heraus.
Close to the church, but off the road, on private property, concealed behind walls and overgrown with ivy stand the ruins of Taghmon Castle. The earliest records seem to be from 1452, when a tower house at this place and the church were plundered and burnt by Feargal MacGeoghegan. In the 17th century the tower house was owned by the family Nugent. In these times Taghmon Castle was constructed (not a real castle, but a fortified house), the former tower house was part of the bawn wall. We cannot find out when then house was abandoned and left to decay.
