St. Féichíns Muehle / St. Féichín's Mill

Wie bei Klöstern im frühen Mittelalter üblich und notwendig, wollte der Hl. Féichín auch eine Mühle haben. Aber leider gibt es im Tal keinen Bach. Also sprach er ein Gebet, schlug mit seinem Stab auf den Boden und es entsprang eine Quelle, die mit dem Wasser des Lough Lene gespeist wird. Nicht schlecht, wenn man bedenkt, dass der See auf der anderen Seite eines Hügels ist. Die originale Mühle ist nicht mehr erhalten, es gab aber später gebaute Mühlen, die letzte war bis 1875 in Betrieb. Die alten Mauern sind heute vollkommen überwuchert, der Mühlteich zum Teil versandet, das Wasser rinnt aber immer noch.

As it was usual and necessary for monasteries in the early Middle Ages, St. Féichín wanted to have a mill, too. But alas, there is no river in the valley. Thus he said a prayer, struck the ground with his staff and a well sprang up that is fed by the water of Lough Lene. Not bad, considering that the lake is on the other side of a hill. The original mill no longer exists, but other mills were built in later times, the last one was in operation until 1875. The old walls are completely overgrown today, the mill pond partially silted, but the water still runs.
