Benediktiner Abtei zu den Hl. Féichín und Taurin / Benedictine Abbey of Saints Féichín and Taurin

In den 1170ern eroberte der Anglo-Normanne Hugh de Lacy Fore. Dabei brannte er die Stadt und das alte Kloster ab. Danach ließ er sich in Fore nieder und eine Motte mit Festung bauen. Kurz darauf holte er Benediktiner Mönche der französischen Abtei St. Taurin von Évreux nach Fore, die 1185 ein neues Kloster errichteten. Sein Sohn Walter führte die Unterstützung des Klosters fort. In der ersten Hälfte des 15. Jahrhunderts wurden Stadt und Kloster zwei Mal von irischen Clans angegriffen, was eine umfangreiche Befestigung notwendig machte. Beide wurden mit einer Stadtmauer umgeben, zwei neu gebaute Türme im Kloster dürften Teil dieser Befestigung gewesen sein. In dieser Zeit wurden auch noch weitere Räume an das Kloster angebaut. Unter Heinrich VIII. wurde die Abtei 1539 aufgelassen. Das Land inklusive dem Kloster wurde an Christopher Nugent vergeben und es blieb im Familienbesitz, bis es vom Staat übernommen wurde.

Wunder 3: Kloster auf einem Moor gebaut (Monastery built on a bog)

In the 1170s the Anglo-Norman Hugh de Lacy conquered Fore. In the process he burnt the town and the old monastery. Afterwards he settled down in Fore and had himself built a motte with a fortress. Shortly after that he invited the Benedictine monks of the French Abbey St. Taurin of Évreux to Fore, who constructed a new monastery in 1185. His son Walter continued to support the monastery. In the first half of the 15th century the town and monastery were attacked twice by Irish clans, which made an extensive fortification necessary. Both locations were surrounded with a town wall, two newly built towers in the monastery might have been part of that fortification. At these times further rooms were added to the monastery. Under Henry VIII. the abbey was dissolved in 1539. The area including the monastery were granted to Christopher Nugent and it stayed in the possession of the family until it came into state care.
