Auf dem dreieckigen Dorfplatz steht ein altes Kreuz, oder besser gesagt: zwei halbe alte Kreuze. Der obere Teil ist ein Wegkreuz (Crawford #16), das am Friedhof gefunden wurde, der Sockel dürfte zu einem nicht mehr vorhandenen Marktkreuz gehört haben. Der Altertumsforscher Henry Saxton Crawford (1867 - 1927) erstelle eine Liste von insgesamt 18 Wegkreuzen, die in der Umgebung von Fore entlang der Straße oder auf Feldern zu finden sind. Und obwohl sie die lokale Folklore mit St. Féichín in Verbindung bringt, datieren sie auf das 17. Jahrhundert. Das National Monument Service listet die Wegkreuze als 1 WM001-035----, 2 WM001-040----, 3 WM001-041----, 4 WM003-042----, 5 WM003-044----, 6 WM003-069----, 7 WM003-076----, 8 WM004-008----, 9 WM004-035017-, 10 WM004-025----, 11 WM004-011----, 12 WM004-009----, 13 WM003-097----, 14 WM004-012----, 15 WM008-097005-, 16 WM008-097001-, 17 WM008-006---- auf. Die Nummer 18 ist nicht mehr auffindbar. Die Betreiber von Megalithic Ireland haben die Mühe auf sich genommen, so viele wie möglich davon aufzusuchen.
On the triangular village square there is an old cross, or better said: two old half crosses. The upper part is a wayside cross (Crawford #16) that was found on the cemetery, the socket could have belonged to a no longer existent market cross. The antiquarian Henry Saxton Crawford (1867 - 1927) created a list of overall 18 wayside crosses that can be found in the surrounding of Fore beside the road or in fields. And although the local folklore connects them to St. Féichín, they date to the 17th century. The number 18 can no longer be found. The webmasters of Megalithic Ireland took on the troubles of locating as many of them as possible.
