Motte

Die normannische Motte in der Ortschaft Moate (An Móta) ist eine ziemliche Enttäuschung. Ein paar mit Gras bewachsene Hügel, die dazu noch ausschauen, als ob sie jemand als Steinbruch verwendet hätte. Es gibt keine Infotafel oder sonstige Beschreibungen und die Hinweise in der Ortschaft, wo die Motte zu finden ist, können mit der Lupe gesucht werden. Das hätten wir von einer Ortschaft, die nach dieser Motte benannt ist, nicht erwartet.

Und noch ein Hinweis: Im Internet lesen wir, dass der Zugang zur Motte in der Nähe des Postamts ist. Allerdings meinen die das alte Postamt. Wir suchen nach einem typischen grünen Postamt und kommen zum neuen Postamt, 400 Meter entfernt.

The Norman motte in the village Moate (An Móta) is quite a disappointment. A few grass covered mounds that even look as if someone had used them as a quarry. There is no info panel or any other descriptions and to find hints in the village where it is located you need a magnifying glass. We would not have expected this from a village that takes it name from the motte.

And another thing: In the internet we read that the access to the motte is close to the post office. However they mean the old post office. We have a lookout for the typical green post office and come to the new post office, 400 metres away.
