Der untere See wird auch Lough Péist genannt, wobei Péist Monster bedeutet. Die Legenden erzählen, dass dieses Monster im oberen See lebte und sich dort von Pilgern und Weidetieren ernährte. Was sowohl die Mönche als auch die Bauern erzürnte und sie wollten das Monster töten. Kevin überredete jedoch das Monster in den unteren See umzuziehen und rettete so sein Leben. Heutzutage ist der See monsterfrei - vielleicht ist es vor den Touristenmassen in den Lough na hOnchon (See des wilden Biests) am Berg Camaderry geflohen.

The lower lake is also called Lough Péist, with Péist meaning "monster". The legends tell that this monster lived in the upper lake and fed on pilgrims and livestock. Which of course enraged the monks and the farmers and they wanted to kill the monster. Kevin however convinced the monster to move to the lower lake and thus saved its life. Nowadays the lake ist free of monsters - maybe it fled from the masses of tourists to Lough na hOnchon (lake of the savage beast) on Camaderry mountain.
