Am Ufer des Schlosssees wurden zwei Ziertürme errichtet, welche die romantisierende Sichtweise von Hamilton Knox Grogan-Morgan vervollständigen.
In the late 12th century, on today's estate of Johnstown Castle, there was a Norman castle owned by the family Esmonde. Around 1840 the family Grogan-Morgan ordered the construction of a mansion in Gothic Revival style and tasked the landscape architect Daniel Robertson to reconstruct the gardens. Robertson (who also designed Powerscourt Garden) was inspired by various styles and had lakes excavated, exotically trees and shrubs planted and set various other focuses of garden decorations.
