Als der Bahnhof in Cobh 1862 eröffnet wurde, war die Eisenbahn der wichtigste Zubringer für Personen, die Irland verlassen wollten oder mussten. Nachdem sich die Passagierströme vom Schiff auf das Flugzeug verlegt hatten, verlor der Hafen von Cobh und auch die Eisenbahn an Bedeutung. Heute fährt noch eine Nebenbahn von hier nach Cork. Ein Teil des ehemaligen Bahnhofs wird seit den 1980ern für Ausstellungen zur Geschichte von Cobh und seiner Bedeutung als ziviler, militärischer und Auswanderungshafen verwendet.
When the railway station of Cobh was opened in 1862, the railway was the most important carrier of people, who wanted to or had to leave Ireland. After the passenger flows had transferred from ships to airplanes, the importance of the harbour of Cobh and also the railway was diminshed. Today a suburban rail line connects Cobh with Cork. Since the 1980ies a part of the former railway station is used as exhibition about the history of Cobh and its meaning as civic, military and emmigration port.
