Gartan Lough

Gartan Lough (Loch Gartáin) erstreckt sich über 4 Kilometer am Fuß des Berges Leahanmore (An Liathaán Mór, links im Bild). Die Gegend um den See gehörte einst der Familie, aus der der Hl. Columba entstammte. Wir fahren auf der Seitenstraße, die fast das ganzen Südufer des Sees entlang führt. Bei der Kirche des Hl. Columba finden wir nicht nur eine Möglichkeit, um das Auto zu parken, sondern auch einen tollen Ausblick über den See und eine Schotterstraße hinunter zum Ufer des Sees.

Gartan Lough (Loch Gartáin) streches for 4 kilometres along the foot of the mountain Leahanmore (An Liathaán Mór, in the left of the picture). The area around the lake once belonged to the family from which St. Columba descended. We drive on the road that runs along the south side of the lake for almost its complete length. At the Church of St. Colmcille we find a possibility to park our car, a great view over the lake and a gravel road going down to the banks of the lake.
