Die Stadt Lismore (Lios Mór, großes Ringfort) hat ihre Anfänge in einem Kloster, das der Hl. Mochuda (Mo Chutu mac Fínaill) im 7. Jahrhundert gründete.
Viele Häuser entlang der Hauptstraße und der Chapel Street wurde im 19. Jahrhundert erbaut. Besonders auffällig ist das ehemalige Gerichtsgebäude (ca. 1815), in dem heute das Kulturerbezentrum und die Touristeninformation untergebracht sind. Auf einer Verkehrsinsel davor steht ein im neugotischen Stil errichteter Brunnen (1872).
The town of Lismore (Lios Mór, great ringfort) has its beginning in a monastery that was founded by St. Mochuda (Mo Chutu mac Fínaill) in the 7th century.
Many buildings of the town centre date back to the 19th century. Most notably are the former Courthouse (around 1815) that is now the Heritage Centre and the Tourist Information. On a traffic island before it there is a fountain built in Neo-Gothical style (1872).
