Normannische Motte / Norman Motte

Die Motte wurde im späten 12. Jahrhundert von den Normannen zur Befestigung der Gegend erbaut und gab der Stadt den Namen "Newcastle". Näher als bis zum Tor können wir nicht kommen, denn dieses ist versperrt.

The motte was built in the late 12th century by the Normans to fortify the area and gave the town its name "Newcastle". Alas, we cannot go closer than to the gate as that is locked.
