Tempel der Winde / Temple of the Winds

In seiner Jugend hatte Robert Stewart, 1. Marquis von Londonderry, das Mittelmeer bereist, wo er die antiken Gebäude sah, die Griechen und Römer hinterlassen hatten. 1786 ließ er den neuklassizistischen Architekten James Stuart ein achteckiges Gebäude auf einer Anhöhe mit gutem Blick über Strangford Lough erbauen und nanntes es "Tempel der Winde". Als Vorbild für den Tempel diente der "Turm der Winde" in Athen.

In his youth Robert Stewart, 1^st Marquess of Londonderry, had travelled around the Mediterranean Sea, where he saw the ancient buildings left by Greeks and Romans. In 1786 he commissioned the neoclassical architect James Stuart to construct an octagonal building on an elevation overlooking Strangford Lough, naming it "Temple of the Winds". The temple is modelled after the "Tower of the Winds" located in Athens.
