Mussenden Tempel / Mussenden Temple

Am Rande des Anwesens und auch am Rande der Klippen steht ein kleines rundes Gebäude, das 1785 als Bibliothek gebaut und vom Vestatempel in Tivoli inspiriert wurde. Es wurde im Andenken an die Cousine von Bischof Hervey, Frideswide Mussenden, nach ihr benannt. Und obwohl Hervey ein Anglikanischer Bischof war, erlaubte er den Katholiken in einem Raum unterhalb des Tempels die heilige Messe zu Feiern.
At the edge of the estate and also on the edge of the cliffs there is a small round building that was built in 1785 as library and was inspired by the Temple of Vesta in Tivoli. In remembrance of the cousin of Bishop Hervey, Frideswide Mussenden, it was named after her. And although Hervey was an Anglican bishop, he allowed the Catholics to celebrate holy mass in a room below the temple.
