Bandon (Droichead na Bandan, Bandon-Brücke) wurde um 1600 im Zuge der "Bepflanzung von Munster" als befestigte Garnisonsstadt gegründet und mit protestantischen Siedlern bevölkert. Im 18. Jahrhundert wurde Bandon zu einem der wichtigsten Zentren der Wollindustrie in Irland, später kam noch Baumwolle dazu. Andere Wirtschaftszweige folgten dem Aufschwung. Doch mit der Großen Hungersnot in den 1840ern und billiger Importware begann der Niedergang.
Bandon (Droichead na Bandan, Bandon Bridge) was founded around 1600 during the "Plantation of Muster" as a fortified garrison town and populated with Protestant settlers. In the 18th century Bandon became one of the most important centres of the wool industry in Ireland, later cotton was added.Other branches of industry followed the boom. But with the Great Famine in the 1840s and cheap import ware the descent started.
