Coole Kloster / Coole Monastery
Heilige Quelle / Holy Well
Beside the monastery there is the entrance to a holy well. Other than the monastery, this well still seems to be in use, because a panel beside the entrance describes the rite in ten steps: A prayer to St. Abban, going round the well clockwise for nine times praying an "Our Father" or a "Hail Mary", leave a small offering, drink from the well three times. The worship of holy wells dates back to pre-Christian times. On the flat stone lying across the well a cross is inscribed, thereby officially christianizing the Celtic cult site.
