Dingle Halbinsel / Dingle Peninsula

Die Dingle Halbinsel (Corca Dhuibhne) ist die nördlichste der fünf Halbinseln im Südwesten Irlands. Der Westteil, in dem noch Irisch als Muttersprache gesprochen wird (Gaeltacht), ist hauptsächlich von steil abfallenden Klippen eingesäumt, im Ostteil finden sich weit ausgedehnte Sandstrände. Die (teilweise sehr enge) Hauptstraße führt nur an der Südküste entlang, aber auf dem Dingle Way können Wanderer die gesamte Halbinsel entdecken. Immerhin gibt es fast 1500 Steinmonumente (frühe Kirchen, Ogham Steine etc.) zu sehen.
The Dingle peninsula (Corca Dhuibhne) is the most northern of the five peninsulas in the southwest of Ireland. The west part, in which still Irish is spoken as mother language (Gaeltacht), is mainly seamed with steep cliffs, in the east part wide sandy beaches can be found. The (for a good part very narrow) main road leads only along the south coast, but along the Dingle Way hikers can discover the whole peninsula. After all there are almost 1500 stone monuments (early churches, Ogham stones etc.) to discover.
