• Aunt May arranges a blind date for Peter and Mary Jane, the niece of her best friend, Anna Watson, but the date does not work out.
• Betty Brant and Liz Allen meet Mary Jane for the first time (the readers still had to wait for a long time).
• Peter's relationship with Betty ends, and he meets Gwen Stacy.
• Finally, Peter hits the jackpot, meets MJ in person and starts to date her.
• Harry Osborn, the son of Norman Osborn (the Green Goblin), and Gwen become close friends of Peter and Mary Jane.
• But slowly, Peter and Gwen start to feel drawn to each other. When they make a couple, Harry and MJ also date.
• The Green Goblin regains his memory and kills Gwen. Not much later he falls victim to his own glider.
• In the aftermath, MJ for the first time decides to lose her happy-go-lucky image and to stay with the smithen Peter.
• Slowly, Peter and MJ open up to each other and when Peter leaves for Europe, they kiss for the first time. A kiss, that changes everything.
• Aunt May helps the young couple to cope with their feelings.
• Peter (in the wake of the clone affair) finally realizes that he loves Mary Jane.
• Unable to handle her feelings, MJ pulls away from Peter and start to date Flash.
• The wedding of Harry Osborn and Liz Allen sets MJ's mind also on marriage.
• Then Peter proposes to MJ, but she rejects him in order to be free and moves to Florida to live with her aunt.
• Now Peter starts several relationships, from the Black Cat to Amy Powell.
• A year later, MJ returns. Aunt May again starts to make attempts to bring Peter and Mary Jane together.
• But Peter is more attracted to the Black Cat. When the Puma attacks him and Mary Jane, MJ finally reveals that she knows Peter's secret.
• She also tells him about her parents and her childhood and why she became the party-only girl.
• Mary Jane is drawn into Spider-Man's adventures, which brings her close to him.
• Another rift opens, when MJ redecorates Peter's appartment - hurting his pride a lot.
• But in the end, the two lover find together and marry, living happily after for at least another couple of issues.
